New Years Warm Tequila Punch

New Year traditions have strong ties to food, looking to bring good luck and prosperity for the new year.   Each country has food traditions and different parts of the united states have their own good luck foods.  In Cuba they throw pans of water out the front door to throw out the bad spirits.  Cubans, Spanish and Portuguese also eat 12 grapes in the last 60 seconds of the year for good luck in up coming 12 months, in Mexico they eat 1 grape for a wish.  Eating 12 grapes is harder than you think, We do this each year.  It is a really fun activity for the kids.   In Argentina  eat beans and black eye peas in the American south for a good new year.  
Marzipan pigs are popular in Austria and Germany.  India, Italy and Brazil choose lentil dishes.  In Greece they like to smash pomegranates and hang onions at the front door.  
Roasted pig is served in Austria, Cuba, Hungary, and Portugal to represent progress and prosperity.  
In Denmark you are well liked if you wake up to lots of broken dishes on your front porch. That sounds like a good way to deal with the dishes after you eat 12 meals on New Years Eve  In Estonia and Belarus.
Something fun for the kids would be to adopt the Japanese tradition of slurping soba noodles without breaking or chewing them for a long prosperous life.  
We all know the traditional drink of champagne for your New Years toast, what about the Mexican Warm Tequila Punch to keep your warm as you ring in the festivities adopt some of the other fun traditions from around the world.  Better leave a note if you decide to break dishes on your neighbors front porch. 
Warm Tequila Punch  serves 8
3 1/2 cups apple cider
1 cup tequila reposado
8 cinnamon sticks
2 tbsp diced dried cranberries
1 apple cored and diced 
2 oranges
Put apple cider and 1 cinnamon stick in a pot and bring to a boil. Slice oranges.  Reduce pot to a simmer and add oranges.  Cover and let simmer for 10 minutes.  Remove from heat strain and smash oranges in strainer to get the juice out.  Reserve cinnamon stick.  Add remaining ingredients and let steep 1 minute. Separate fruit into heat proof glasses and pour punch.  Add 1 cinnamon stick to each glass and enjoy.
